Another headboard...

I have been working on changing my 4 year olds bedroom for a while now (still not there) and wanted to include his headboard as another inexpensive example of how to customize your childs room. My son is currently obsessed with all things dinosaur but try finding a dinosaur fabric that doesn't scream juvenile cartoon! As a compromise I did use some dinosaur fabric in the bedding and accesories but did not committ wholly to the dinosaur concept by recovering the headboard in a neutral striped pattern that can easily be modified as he gets older. All you need for this project is an old headboard with an inset similar to the one above, batting, a staple gun and 2 yards of fabric. SO EASY and SO INEXPENSIVE!

Charm anyone?

This bench was made by taking an old second hand twin size bed frame and cutting the footboard in half (the two halves then make up the sides) along with a window shutter and piece of scrap wood for the seat. It is very easy to construct and provides an excellent way to add some charm to your front porch, entry way, or childs bedroom. A friend of mine stores pots of flowers in her seat that cozy's up her landscape even more. The possibilities are endless. Here's what I did with mine just in time to celebrate autumn.

who said brighter means lighter?

This was our bathroom soon after we moved into the house...bland, beige, boring. Call me crazy but I have always wanted a blue bathroom and even though this one is small in size the light countertop, and large vanity lended the room for a darker hue...at least I think so :) Anyway I simply painted the cabinets a dark brown (kept the same hardware) and went with a dark grey blue for the walls. I love the result. Clean and bright. Simple., but so much more interesting. I'm linking this post up to http://domestically-speaking.blogspot.com for her Power of Paint Party. So go check it out to see what others have done with paint!

Adding affordable drama!

Playing with variations of paint on the wall can add the drama you are looking for in your space with very little cost and minimal committment. As you can see I added a beige rectangle to my chocolate accent wall to frame the prints on the wall. For added interest I painted a large stripe of another accent color across the remaining walls in the room. This is so easy and yet so eye catching to those who enter your space!
