Junk Drunk
So, a couple weeks ago I snagged some amazing finds at an estate sale near my parents home. We are talking acres of treasures in several different out buildings not to mention the most charming farm home around (FYI: I got my wedding announcement pics on the front porch of this house). Seriously, I went there three days in a row! My sisters husband defines us best when sales like this come around..."junk drunk". While she hunts and finds the most amazing vintage clothing, I search for furniture and home decor gems. Some of which at this particular sale were tin ceiling remnants. Old, dirty, somewhat banged up tin ceiling sheets. I. LOVE. THEM. This one below I just faux painted for part of an upcoming project. Love that good old aged texture created from layers of old paint with cracks and crevices just dying for some glaze!
Here's a better look at it finished.

Black OR White.
I am excited to share a couple of projects I have been working on for others with you. I have been losing sleep over the many projects I have undertaken and still not finished...well tonight I will be sleeping better :)
FOR CANDACE: The real work on this cabinet was peeling (or scraping with a razor blade) the layers of contact paper on the top surface. NOT FUN!
Anyhow, I primed it and then painted it black and distressed the edges, then replaced the hardware with something a bit more traditional, then waxed the whole thing. (It's going in a little boys room for added storage.)
FOR KRISTEN: Here is the desk I picked up for $10 at a yard sale a few weeks back. It was missing the matching hardware on one of the drawers so I decided to make the bottom drawers little cubbies for baskets instead.
I painted it white and distressed it just a bit, then painted the hardware rubbed oil bronze and inserted pieces of bead board in the bottom cubbies for added charm. To finish it off I again applied wax..loving the wax people! I am really pleased with how this one turned out and will be sad to let this one go :( FYI: it's going to be used as a vanity table in a little girls room with a bright yellow mirror above)
Have a great weekend!

KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON.
My good friend Jamee called me about this piece she saw at a yard sale a couple weeks back. Since I was near it I stopped by and was glad I did! Even though it looks pretty sorry, it has HUGE potential and is very sturdy! I paid a whopping $5 for it and even had it delivered to my door. It doesn't get much better than that!
In the mean time, I will continually be scraping off the veneer (not my fave). It's going to be a job and the only motivating factor is that when it is off I can begin the transformation process! This one is going to be hard to let go...still haven't decided if I will.
I also picked up this little stool/step for $2 at an estate sale and though I do not have a before photo just imagine weathered boards with rusty nails and you've got it. I scrubbed it good and gave it a white wash look then stenciled the crown and words "KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON", definitely words for a mother of only boys to live by ;)
Did I mention this is going in my bathroom to help my little ones reach the sink. I figure when I am cleaning up their mess the saying will help :) Anyway, I hope everyone had a wonderful Fathers Day! I am fortunate enough to have a great dad and be married to one who both support me in all my craziness. Well, that's it for now. Hope you enjoy!

Cabinet Redo!
I am happy to share that this blog was featured on http://betterafter.blogspot.com/ (which I love, love) this week! What an honor, and I just noticed when I got on today that there are now 100 followers! Sweet! Thank you all for your support and encouragement...it means so much to me!
Okay, so I am almost finished with this piece (my life story) but I couldn't wait another minute to post the progress. Here is the before shot below. Honestly this picture does not even begin to show the grime that I had to scrub off this baby, not to mention the mouse crap...yuck! Anyway, after scrubbing and cleaning and filling in nail holes and then of course some sanding...
and some painting inside with some more $5 Valspar paint from Lowes "oops" shelf, I came up with this design to go in my little boys bedroom.
Oh man did we need the extra storage and now I am that much closer to finishing their bedroom makeover. Baby steps I tell you. I used a stencil for the door pattern and then sanded ever so slightly and applied a brown glaze over the gray and blue paint when it was dry. And finally I replaced the old hardware with some cottagy kind I had in my stash at home.
Well, that's it for now! Next week I hope to have a couple projects done for you...you guys are going to flip when you see what I picked up for $5 at a yard sale last week!

Blue/Gray Stand.
I just finished this stand today and wanted to share it before the weekend gets here! As you can see I have a pair of these fun little tables. Actually one of them belongs to a friend of mine Alyssa (the unfinshed one)and by coincidence another bestie of mine Jamie was cleaning out her Grandmothers house this past week and brought me an identical match :) along with another gem I will be showing you later (it's almost done)! I'm not sure what these were originally made for but they look great as a unique side table displaying anything from candles to vases to plants.
After priming and then painting it this grey/blue color I distressed the edges and applied a brown glaze.
Love it! If you would like to purchase this stand please email me at lemonsqueezing@gmail.com. Thanks everyone and have a great weekend!

Unfinished Business.
With all the rain, not to mention family I have in town I have little to share this week when it comes to completed projects so I thought I would post some "unfinished business" . These are just some of the unfinished projects I have in store for you in the coming weeks.
I have five of these antique chairs. They need some love but have soooo much potential, don't you think?!
This cabinet is well built and even has wheels on the bottom for easy moving. Once the hardware is gone (replaced) and a fresh coat of paint applied it will be perfect!
I love this desk...I mean LOVE it! It also needs some love and attention before it makes its debut!
I actually just sold these matching headboards to my friend Jess this morning but they will be darling painted in her little girls bedroom!
Oh, and last but not least is this cabinet my friend Jen gave to me yesterday. They just bought another home to flip and this beaut was inside just waiting for someone to clean it up and give it a face lift. My mind is reeling with ideas for this one!
It's going to be a busy summer!

Pleasures on the Patio :)
Those of you following this blog know that I have been working on my covered patio for the last few weeks. Well, it's not finished, not really even close but everything I have used so far as been salvaged or repurposed and because of that I love the process all the more even if it does take longer at times! Today I finished some "outdoor lighting" I will be using in the conversation area. Here's a picture of the chandelier I paid $1 for at a yard sale.
Here it is after I added some paint, hanging! I am going to use white pillar candles in it.
And here's a photo of things starting to come together. The bird cage ($4 thrift find) I painted and put battery operated candles inside (another outdoor lighting feature I will be using) and the coffee table ($4 thrift find) is now painted and holds square pots I found from Family Dollar. I love how the flowers are coming along. The blue end table/plant stand I built from odds and ends I had from other projects and the red sofa I also purchased at a thrift for $40 last summer. I still need to complete two chairs for the conversation area and I may also be using a cabinet to store balls/bats and other outdoor recreational items. My twin sister is coming to visit from the south and will be here the whole month of June...needless to say there is no telling what I may (or may not) get accomplished once she gets here Monday but for now this will have to suffice :) Have a great weekend everyone!

Desk turned "Creative Station"
I found this desk a couple weeks ago at a local yard sale. The paint job was a little much for my liking and I hated the wooden block pulls. Needless to say I am almost done with it (still needs some touch up paint and a protective coat) and am loving the transformation (hope you do too)! So here goes...
After scuffing it up some I primed it and painted it yellow (of course I did I can't get enough of that color lately!) Then I had every intention of covering the drawer faces with scrapbooking paper but just couldn't commit to it so instead I filled the holes in from the old pulls and did some hand painting...
I decided to have a little fun and paint the words "This", "That", and "The Other" on the drawers...love that saying. Once again I apologize for the bad pics. I took these late at night in my workshop (terrible lighting) with a crappy camera. Anyhow, click on the pics to enlarge them a bit and you might get a better view.
I ended up painting the flowers for some whimsey and to soften the overwhelming yellow a bit. Then, I drilled new holes for some more appropriate hardware. So much better! I think this would be so charming in a girls room :) and so I am calling it my "creative station" Doesn't it just make you want to get craftin?
Well, unfortunately I don't have a little girl so (one can only hope) this one is going up for sale!
Please feel free to email me with any questions about it at lemonsqueezing@gmail.com. As always thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous friday!SOLD!!!

...and it was all yellow!
I have been longing for warmer weather and I mean longing. Even as I type this I am fighting back the urge to swallow because my throat is so unbelievably sore and my head feels like it is going to explode. Needless to say it has rained and rained and then rained some more and I am ready for some sunshine! Well, today I got a little...
And here is the headboard I bought for $15 at a thrift store a couple of months ago. It still needs a few minor adjustments (a couple more screws and some trim in the front and of course a cushion) and it will be ready for my back patio...or front, I can't decide! Anyway, here it is so far!
I have to apologize for not having the giveaway yet...it is not quite completed and I don't want to rush perfection (or my friend that's doing it so willingly)! Keep checking back, it should be here soon :) And as always, thanks for stopping by, I hope I have added some sunshine to your day as well!Tuesday, May 17, 2011
Design Forecast: Sunshine with Blue Skies
Here is the $15 barstool I picked up at D.I. last week. It really didn't need to be painted, but you know me...
I just can't help myself so with all the rain I decided we could use a little sunshine around our house!
And you can't have sunshine without blue skies so I decided to go with the same Ocean Breezes Krylon spray paint for the plant stand/outdoor end table I built using these odds and ends last week.
Loving it!
Well, that's it for now but don't forget about the upcoming giveaway...I'll give you a hint, its custom, it's pretty, and trust me, you are going to want it ;)
